The magic of the Three Wise Men

The Three Wise Men of the East are a Christian tradition that calls the priests who, after the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, came to pay homage to him and give him gifts.

In Spain, starting in the 19th century, the tradition of turning Twelfth Night into a party with gifts to children began. The names of the current Three Wise Men appeared for the first time in a 6th century mosaic and are Melchior, Gaspar and Baltasar.

Without a doubt, the Three Kings festival is one of the most celebrated in all of Spain. From Aerobús we want to explain to you how to experience the traditional Three Kings festival in Barcelona.

The morning of January 6 is the most anticipated in most Spanish homes.

But the Three Kings festival has a series of customs that begin days before. The first and most important thing is to write the letter to the Kings with our requests and wishes.

The children write it down and go to a royal page to give it to them. For the kings to bring them what they want, they have to have behaved well throughout the year because if not, the kings reserve the option of being less generous with gifts.

On the evening of January 5, one of the most important and exciting events is celebrated: the Three Kings Parade.

In all towns and cities they await the arrival of the Three Wise Men who make their appearance in floats full of gifts to be distributed to all the children on a magical night.

Finally, all the children go home to sleep so that, during the night, the Three Wise Men enter their homes and leave the gifts.

If you want to know the entire route and information about the parade this year 2024, you can consult it on the City Council website.
